✅ Phone call checklist – Pre-mowing intervention
📝 Information to collect
- Owner’s name
- Phone number
- Email address
- Location of the intervention:
- – Exact address
- – GPS coordinates (if available) or plot number
- – Dimensions of the land concerned
- Scheduled mowing time (Important for planning according to weather: thermal cameras are only effective early in the morning or late in the evening, in cool weather.)
📦 Equipment preparation
- Provide:
- – Crates
- – Or jute bags (especially later in the season)
⚠️ Precautions to remember
- The fawn cannot go too long without drinking → It must be released as soon as possible.
- Never touch an animal with bare hands → If spotted: pick it up using plenty of grass to avoid transferring human scent.
👥 Presence on site
- Ask who will be present during the intervention:
- – Owner
- – Family (son, daughter…)
- – Gamekeeper
- – Others?
🦌 Mission prioritization
- Assess the urgency and relevance of the intervention:
- – Have there been fawns on the plot in previous years?
- – Current presence of animals observed?
- – Visible tracks:
- * Footprints
- * Bedding sites
- * Other signs of animal presence?
🔄 Follow-up and communication
- Inform the owner: A pilot will contact them back, if available.
- Check: Does the owner have their 2025 membership card? (Gives priority for the intervention)
📲 Transmission of the request
- 1. If urgent: post the mission on the SOS Missions WhatsApp group
- 2. If no pilot is available:
- – Contact the farmer (SMS or call)
- – Suggest they walk through the plot (do not touch animals if they are spotted)
🐶 Other requests
- For a dog, a calf, or other:
- – Post on the pilots’ group
- – See if a pilot is available and willing
💰 Contribution to costs
- The service is free, but:
- ➡️ A small contribution towards fuel costs is welcome.
