Before:
- Call the client to:
- Introduce yourself and confirm the appointment time
- Explain the procedure
- Ask them to prepare sufficiently large crates and something to close them with cable ties/straps/string example protection crate (such as Colruyt vegetable crates or “collect & go” at the start of the season)
- Ensure that mowing is 100% confirmed within max 4 hours after your visit
- Specify that they will need to remember to release the fawn after mowing if you are not available to release it yourself
- Explain that we are volunteers but that a contribution is welcome to help with fuel costs (in cash or via Payconiq)
- Prepare the mission:
- Prepare the flight plan on the RC directly or via SCRPY
- Check flight authorizations (Bambimap at the time itself with the UAS filter or https://map.droneguide.be/ & NOTAMs in advance)
- Submit a flight authorization request if necessary https://www.skeyes.be/fr/services/drone-home-page/you-and-your-drone/request-access-to-a-skeyes-uas-geographical-zones
- Charge batteries to 100% (Warning: slow discharge after 24h)
- Bring the drone, Bambi hi-vis vest, batteries, nets, latex gloves or clean gloves, earpiece for guiding and piloting, cable ties, burlap bag or min 4 collapsible crates (Colruyt crates), Bambi business card and Bambi sticker
- Have the Sauvons Bambi Payconiq code with you
During:
- Execute the waypoint flight plan in auto flight mode by marking hotspots (C2 shortcut to program for M3T or Boson)
- After the complete flyover of the meadow, go check the hotspots with the drone
- Send 1 or 2 person(s) on site with a net below the drone to guide them over the last 10 meters. Open the GPS point QR code or photo of GPS coordinates if you no longer have battery
- Catch the fawn with the net
- Pick it up with clean gloves and forage to minimize scent traces
- Put it in the crate(s), close them and take it outside the meadow, in the shade (e.g., forest edge)
- Remind the client to release the fawn after mowing (Max 4/5h after). A fawn must be nursed every 3 hours so it should be left in the crate as little as possible
- Verify that you have the phone number of the person who commits to releasing the fawn (farmer, spouse, someone present on site…)
- Ask the client for the name of each meadow in order to encode and reference them for the following year in BambiMap
- Give a business card explaining that the association lives thanks to donations, and a sticker for the tractor or mower to remind them of the association in future years
After:
- Fill out the mission report on BambiMap:
- Verify that all surveyed plots are drawn (select or draw if necessary)
- indicate the animals saved or observed on each plot
- the number of km traveled by car (this is the data used for reimbursement of your km at the end of the season)
- Enter any remarks
- Call back the person in charge of the release to verify that it has indeed taken place and ask for a photo for example
